October 23, 2019 Wednesday’s announcements

-Please announce today and tomorrow:  Tryouts for grade 10 boys who are interested in playing basketball this year must be here this Saturday from 12:30-2:30. If you have any questions please ask Mr. Dhaliwal.

 

-Today's games for the grade 9 girls volleyball team are postponed until next Tuesday. Instead we will have a practice today in the small gym until 4. See you there!

 

-Bhangra practice will be tomorrow after school at 2:45pm. Located TBD.

-Cross country athletes are competing in the Fraser Valley Championship today. All athletes please be excused at 10:45.

-Scape up your loose change and come on down to the Rick Hansen Diversity Alliance Bake Sale! Show your support by purchasing a rainbow cookie for $1 and a rainbow cupcake for $2  before school, at lunch, and after school.

-Read until end of Oct. - Get your yearbook NOW and save 20 PERCENT. You must buy before October 31st. The cost is just 60 dollars for some amazing memories. Don't miss out!

- Please read this whole week…. Attention Hurricanes! Diwali is coming to Hansen.  Join in on the fun of dressing up in your favorite Indian wear, enjoying tasty Punjabi food at the concession, try to win this year’s Diva Art Challenge. Draw your favorite Divia Candle for a chance at a prize.  Finally, we are looking for two students in each grade to take part in a Diwali food eating competition. The winning grade will receive gift cards.  Mark the date Diwali @ Hansen November 7th lunch time cafeteria.  Look for the posters, to sign up, or help come see Mr. J Gill in C201.

- Please read till Oct. 31 - Mathletes are going to be selling Halloween Mystery bags on Thursday, Oct 31st. Each bag costs $5 and has goodies and prizes worth up to $25. Prizes include candy, a Bluetooth speaker, and gift cards to Starbucks, Sephora, Booster Juice, and others. Take a chance if you dare!

-UFV advisors will be visiting Rick Hansen on Tuesday, November 12 to answer student questions about post-secondary programs and the application process. The sign-up sheet for an appointment is in the Counselling Centre. See Mrs. Jongenburger for more information.

-Read until the end of Oct. - Did you live in a country where English was not the language of instruction? Are you taking language courses outside of school? If so, consider writing the Language Challenge Exam. Students who successfully pass the exam will receive 4 grad credits for each session. See Mr. Bawa in room C202 for more details. 

-Read every day until Oct. 31 - Grads! It is time to get your yearbook quote in. Ms. Muller has sent you an email with the link for the google form. You MUST complete this by November 1st, or she guarantees that she will pick the cheesiest quote of all time for you! Didn't get the email? Come see her in W208. 

-All Boys and Girls who want to join the Hurricanes Wrestling Team and did not get to sign up yet please come go to C201@ lunch in Mr. J Gill’s room. The wrestling coaches who are alumni will be starting practices first week of November. You must be on the school team if you want to compete at competitive events.

-Attention outdoors club Lindeman Lake Hike this Thursday, drop by Mr. Gordons room to sign up for a spot and pick forms up if you haven't already.

-No girls basketball practice for grade 9 or jr.’s  until after Halloween due to volleyball playoffs coming up.

-Now that the federal election results are official, we can announce the results of Friday's Student Vote. We had 312 students vote - the NDP won with 113 votes, the Liberals were second with 94 votes, the Conservatives in third with 44 votes, the Greens were fourth, the Marxist-Leninist were fifth, and the PPC were sixth. Thanks to everyone who took the time to vote and to the many volunteers who helped make the vote possible.
