Friday, March 13th - Announcements

The Sr. boys' played hard against a very strong Yale side yesterday but couldn't get enough momentum going to pick up a win. Ravi Toor won man of the match for his courage. He was fearless and made tackle after tackle, even on their biggest players.

Reminder to all Ultimate players there is practice after school today on the upper field; bring water and cleats if you have them.

All Matthew's house organizers and helpers, please meet in Ms. Lang's room at lunch today.

Any rugby players who still must pay their fees, please go on school cash online and do so!

There will be a new student Fun Event being held right after school today. The event will run 2:45 pm-3:30 pm. There will be movies, games and delicious food. It will be in Mr. Bawa’s room, C202. So, if you are new to Rick Hansen Secondary or want to connect with new students and want to have some fun with fellow peers, pop in and have a good time! This event is put on by Careers 10 students and there is no cost.

Students interested in writing the UFV math competition for a chance to win a scholarship please sign up in Mrs. Gordon's room C208.

Did you know that March 14th is international Pi Day AND Albert Einstein's birthday?? Come celebrate this nerdy day in a delicious way TODAY. Mathletes will be selling pie, ice cream, and pop in the East Lobby.

Applications for the Athlete Performance Academy are available now in the PE office.  Please see Mr. Pickering for your application.

Thursday, March 12th - Announcements

The junior boys’ rugby team played one of the best teams in the league yesterday in Yale secondary. The boys lost 49-7 but never gave up hope. Our man of the match, Mansher Nahal stepped up as a leader, scored our only try and made hit after hit.

Sr. boys’ rugby will be taking on Yale today at the lower field after school. Kickoff is at 3:30 so come out and show your support!

Any rugby players who still must pay their fees, please go on school cash online and do so!

Mandatory 10-minute rugby meeting today at 2:45. All players must attend this quick meeting after school even if they cannot practice. If you cannot attend, please see Mr. Cairns or Ms. Harasemow.

Matthew’s House is a “home away from home” that provides quality care for youth, who live with complex care needs.  Today at lunch there will be a bake sale in front of the counselling office.  All proceeds will go to Matthew’s House.  Come and support a great cause.

All senior girls who played on the basketball team this year are eligible for a $500 scholarship this year. If you played and are interested in applying, please see your coaches or come directly to Mr. J Gill in C201. The deadline is coming up before spring break. One person is guaranteed to be selected from our team.

The bake sale for homeless shelters was sold out at Eugene Reimer, but today we will be doing the bake sale, please contribute to a good cause in the east lobby at lunch, all funds will be going to the homeless shelters.

All the students who signed up and anyone still interested must come to a mandatory meeting on Thursday in C201.  The season will start after spring break, but a lot of player information must be confirmed.  See Mr. J Gill if you have any other questions.

Monday, March 9th - Announcements

Rugby fees can be paid online now.

It's still not too late to join if you are interested in playing rugby. Practices are every Monday and Tuesday on the lower field.

This Thursday, leadership will be holding their annual Matthew's House fundraiser. We will be selling baked goods and hot beverages to raise money to fund programs at Matthew's house. Matthew's house provides quality care in a beautiful, homelike environment for children and youth who live with complex care needs. So, remember to bring your change and your appetite to help make a difference on March 12th.

If you are interested in competing in a math competition for money, the Mathletes are hosting a preliminary contest on Wednesday April 1st (lunch will be provided). The top 7 students from our school in gr. 9 & 10 and top 7 students from gr. 11 & 12  will qualify for the final round at UFV against other schools. The finalists will receive scholarships valued between $150-$2000! Please see Mrs. Gordon for details.

Ultimate players stop by Ms. Davies’ room to pick up your info sheet and consent form. There will be a short throwing practice after school this Thursday, and the first official practice is next Wednesday, March 11, after school.
