Our students will succeed in a much different future from the one we envisioned 10 or 15 years ago. It is our responsibility to prepare all children for success in whatever life path they choose, connecting learning opportunities with future career possibilities. We know that real-life experiences - like community involvement, gaining business knowledge, and hands-on-learning - build better students and life-long citizens.
A new piece of equipment in our applied skills space is the CNC Plasma Cutter. This is an exciting piece of equipment that allows our students to work with cutting edge technology.
Computer numerical controlled (CNC) plasma cutting is a manufacturing process used to cut many different materials that are electrically conductive. It’s faster than other methods, like oxy-fuel and thermal cutting, and is also repeatable (but less so with thin-gauge conductive materials). It can also be used in water to keep any heat-affected zones cool(er). The process is quite affordable and has brought the cost of cut parts down. As a very brief description of how it works, the process involves uploading a design to the CNC plasma cutter machine using relevant software so that the cutter knows exactly where to go and where to cut.
Students interested in pursuing the culinary arts can enroll in courses with Chef Chase learning the skills necessary to be successful in fast-paced kitchen environment. Students in this program create weekly menus that serve our entire school community and partake in all aspects of the process from planning, prepping, cooking, and serving.
Our students receive real-time information regarding local post-secondary institutions and trades training programs. Located in the front foyer, our On Deck screen rotates through informational screencasts, keeping students in the know.
Our Work Experience/Work Study students have created a car detailing business serving our school staff and students. WE/WE students consult with the client, by appointment, to discuss services available, prices, and set appointments for service. Clients can select car washes and thorough interior cleaning of any sort of vehicle. Our students are building valuable employability skills for the future!
